Terms of Use
Open Blocker is a free, open-source physical app blocker by Finn Jennen. By using the apps or this website, you agree to these terms.
The short version
- Open Blocker is free and open source (MIT License).
- It is provided as is, with no warranty.
- You are responsible for how you use it and for your keys.
- There is no account.
Free and open source
The apps are free. There are no ads, purchases or subscriptions. The source code is published at github.com/fjenn/open-blocker under the MIT License, and that license governs the code.
No warranty
Open Blocker is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. It adds friction to help you focus. It is not a security product or a parental control. It may fail to block an app, block more than you expected, or stop working after a system update. To the extent the law allows, Finn Jennen is not liable for any loss or harm that comes from using or not being able to use Open Blocker.
Your use and your keys
You choose what to block, when, and which key unlocks it. A key can be an NFC tag or card, a printed QR code, or on iPhone also a barcode. Keep your keys somewhere you can reach. Tags and codes can be copied, so they are not a lock against other people. Make sure apps you may need in an emergency, such as Phone, stay available.
Emergency unblocks
If your key is out of reach, you can end a block without it using an emergency unblock. You get 5 every 6 months. You can also turn off Screen Time access (iPhone) or Accessibility access (Android), or delete the app, at any time.
No accounts
There is no sign-up or sign-in. Your keys, app choices and settings stay on your phone.
Anonymous count
The iPhone app sends an anonymous count when you complete a block. It is on by default and you can turn it off in Settings. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
App Store
If you downloaded the iPhone app from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.
