Privacy Policy
Open Blocker is an open-source physical app blocker by Finn Jennen. This policy covers both the iPhone app and the Android app, and the waitlist on this website.
The short version
- No account and no sign-in.
- Your settings, keys and app selections stay on your phone.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics SDKs.
- We do not sell or share any data.
Data that stays on your device
- Your settings.
- Your keys. The ID of your NFC tag or QR code is stored only on your device.
- The apps you choose to block.
iPhone and Apple's Screen Time API
The iPhone app uses Apple's Screen Time API (Family Controls, individual authorization) only so you can block apps on your own device. The apps you select are opaque tokens from Apple. They never leave your device.
Optional "Count me" toggle
This setting is off by default. If you turn it on, the app sends one anonymous message, once. On iPhone it is sent when you start your first focus session. On Android it is sent the first time the block screen appears. The message contains only:
- a random install ID (a UUID generated on your device, not tied to you),
- the event name
first_block, - the app version.
The server adds the time it was received. If you leave the setting off, this message is not sent.
Optional review prompt
After your 3rd focus session, the iPhone app may ask you for a short review. This is optional. If you send one, we receive the review text, the same random install ID, the app version, the platform (iPhone or Android) and the time it was received. We also receive an email address only if you type one. We use that email only to follow up on that review.
Where data is stored
The "Count me" message and reviews are stored in a database hosted by Supabase, our hosting provider. We do not store IP addresses in our table. Supabase may keep standard server logs.
Waitlist
If you join the waitlist on this website, we collect only the email address you enter. We use it only to tell you when the iPhone app is available. It is stored on Vercel, the host of this website. We do not store your IP address with it. Vercel may keep standard server logs. We never sell or share your email, and we will delete it on request.
Sharing
We do not sell or share your data.
Deleting your data
If you sent a review with an email address, or joined the waitlist, you can ask us to delete your email and we will honor that request.
Children
Open Blocker is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date.
